Since it's the start of the year we have lots of events in the next couple of weeks so here's the low down. For more convenient timing information see the schedule page on our site, where you can also get a super-handy ICAL feed. For timely information about what we're doing, follow us on twitter.
Campus Challenge - Monday 26th September, 11am to 4pm, in The Plug
We're taking part in the Freshers week event "Campus Challenge". This is effectively a campus tour, where groups of freshers go between stations across campus run by different groups where they take part in games/challenges for points. We'll be running a Warioware based challenge. If you're a fresher, come see us, get some points and the committee will be on hand to provide information about BUNCS. If you're a veteran student, come see us anyway. We'll probably be pretty sick of Warioware after a couple of hours and will welcome distractions.
Pick and Mix Day Taster Session - Saturday 1st October, 11am to 6pm, in 1W 3.15 8W 2.13
The first of this year's console sessions (which will be less frequent and a bit different this year) is on "Pick and Mix Day". We'll have our new Rock Band setup plus whatever games and consoles members bring. So if you have a console please bring it along! (chat with us in IRC or on the forums if you're not sure what to bring) We're doing a joint event with BUTTS (the Table-top games society) so you can come along, play some video games with us and board games (think Catan style, not Snakes & Ladders or Monopoly) with them. Twice the value for the same low price of nothing! All comers welcome regardless of whether you're a fresher or someone who should have graduated years ago.
Activities Fair - Monday 3rd October, 4pm to 7pm, in Founders Hall
The annual Activites fair is your chance to find out what all the great societies at Bath are about. We'll be there with, if all goes to plan, a Mini-LAN allowing you to have a go at some of the games we play at our Mega-LANs. The Committee will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
N00bcamp '11 - Friday 7th October, 6pm to Sunday 10th October, 7pm, in 3WN 3.7
The first LAN of the year. 2 and a bit days of PC gaming goodness. Setup starts at 6 on Friday. We'll be heading to the Westgate pub at about 7:30pm for food, drinks and chatting. Non-drinkers most welcome! The LAN will be at full power on Saturday, with a big pizza delivery for dinner. Things will wrap up at about 7 on Sunday. So much video games! Don't miss it!
Note for non-students: If you're coming to the LAN and aren't a student at Bath, or are bringing someone who isn't, you need to email secretary@buncs.com with your full name so we can get you a guest account for the University network. We need these by Sunday 2nd October.
Fortnightly social - Wednesday 12th October, 7pm to 11ish, Sam Wellers Pub
Our first fortnightly social will be on the Wednesday of week 2. This year we want to try mixing things up a bit by having a portion of the evening dedicated to a book club style discussion of a game that we've all played over the previous 2 weeks. For the first try we're going to discuss Team Fortress 2 (Why it's fun, why we're still playing it years after it's release, what it does well and what it does poorly, etc.) as pretty much everyone has played lots of that already.
