FAQ
- What do I need to bring?
-
- A desktop or laptop that can connect to a network i.e. RESNET. A network cable (you've probably got one for RESNET already).
- You're gonna want Windows really (sadly) to run the games we play, Windows 2000/XP are most compatible. If you haven't used RESNET before check out the instructions for patches before you try and connect please!
- Multi-way extension lead to power your PC, if you've got a laptop you may be able to scavange a single socket but bring the lead if you have it.
- Earphones/Headphones.
- Money for food and drink from fresh. We also often order pizza on Saturday evening.
- Spare extension leads/network cables/other odds and ends that might be useful.
- How do I get there/where is it?
- LANs are held on campus, the exact location will be in the news on this website shortly before the event. If you're living on campus you can walk over. If you're living off campus, arrangements will be made prior to the LAN and posted online/emailed. If you need particular help/want to check arrangements email secretary@buncs.com.
- What games do you play?
- We play lots of games but last year the most popular were TF2, Left4Dead, Call of Duty 4, Company of Heroes, Dawn of War 2 and BzFlag.
- What food provisions are there?
- We usually do a huge pizza order on Saturday evening, other than that food is available from Fresh, which is open until 10pm on the Friday, and 9am-7pm Saturday and Sunday.
- When is the LAN?
- BUNCS LANs are held over a weekend starting on the Friday evening, usually around 7pm to start setting up. Friday and Saturday night we are usually asked to leave by security some time between 11pm and midnight. Saturday mornings generally start at 10am, but it's worth checking that there's going to be a committee member present to have the room unlocked, Sundays it's usually not until 11am. Everyone's gone by 9pm at the latest (usually!) on Sunday.
Although the LAN lasts all weekend, there's no requirement to stay for all of it, feel free to turn up and leave when you like.
