Public BUNCS TF2 Server

After last week's Summer Gaming on TF2 I accidentally left the server online, however it turns out that it's somewhat popular so i've decided to leave it on as a full time thing. Go connect to 78.129.221.69:27015 now!

At the moment, it's running a pretty standard configuration - Map rotation suggestions are welcome, the stock TF2 one is boring! There are also 8 hidden player slots so if the server is full, write "connect 78.129.221.69:27015" in the console and you'll be able to connect to the server via one of the hidden slots.

All committee have admin privileges so fear them, we may also give some regular BUNCS players admin privileges for times when the committee are not on.

Suggestions, feedback etc welcome.

We're looking for about 15 maps to put in rotation. Map time limit is set at 45 minutes.

i'd swap goldrush and granary, so there isn't two payloads in a row, but its not hugely important

How about a voting system? Is that hard to implement? The Hampshire Heavy servers are a really good standard of server - but they have a lot more resources and a larger player base. On their website is a list of popular servers they have in rotation (though today Hydro came up =S ), so i would suggest the top 10 or 15 from there to start.

There is a map end vote (at least, one showed up while I was playing earlier today) but it only selects from the rotation.

i know that cogs implement two rounds on each map, with a vote after the first round for the next map. dunno if that's the best way of doing it as it doesn't work for, say, koth, but there's that option as well

By vote, I meant map rate. During every map, people vote 1-5 (5 being good, 1 being poor) for how much they like the map. The server collates this and puts maps with higher scores at the top of the rotation for people to play next. This way, stuff like TC Hydro, PLR Stalemate and WTF 2Fort never get picked.

Seems like a good idea.


Looking into it a bit further, that plugin only collects ratings and does not force a ratings vote - it does not affect the map cycle at all.

As an alternative, i've tweaked the RTV plugin to require just 50% of players to request a RTV before offering a map vote (default was 60%). I've also tweaked the end of round map vote to be held 5 minutes before the round ends rather than 2.

turbine is good with a low player count, like, 6-8 a side or so. above that it gets turtly, but that's ctf for you.
